Heritage walk The Death Wire

The impressive reconstruction of the Death Wire is located near the Achelse Kluis. This reconstruction gives an excellent impression of the impact of this German barrier during WWI on the area and its inhabitants. Along this reconstruction are information boards that provide walkers with additional information about the original construction in 1916, the many escape methods that were attempted from Belgium to the Netherlands, but also the dramatic stories that took place at the wire.

From the Drielandenpunt to the North Sea, 546 kilometres long, cyclists can explore the route of the Doodendraad from the First World War.

Two walking routes have been developed at De Doodendraad. This gives visitors the opportunity to easily discover the heritage themselves.

A short walk of 3.2 kilometres (approximately 40 minutes) starts at De Ezel and is walked counterclockwise. For the long route of 8.8 kilometers (approximately 2 hours 30 minutes) you can start at both De Ezel and De Achelse Kluis. This is walked clockwise.

You recognize both routes by the pictures with a poppy on them.
